The Quad and I (my husband and 2 other friends) went to check out the new pub in our neighbourhood – Town Crier/Halfway Beer House after our Monthly Brunch.
They have 52 beers on tap, mostly European. Here is the breakdown:
- UK- 9
- Austria – 2
- Canada – 5
- Ireland – 1
- Germany – 14
- Belgium – 11
- France – 2
- Netherlands – 6
- Czech Republic – 2
The atmosphere looked similar to Sin and Redemption, not surprisingly since it is the same owner.
Beer prices were cheap! $5.75 for a Delirium Tremens, La Trappe Double and Quad were $5.75 as well – compared to $8.75 at Smokeless next door!!!
They had all the branded glassware for the drinks we ordered, but no branded coasters. Altogether we ordered – Hobglobin, Hacker Pschorr Dunkle Weisse, Weihenstephan Hefeweiss Dunkle, Hop-it Superior, Grimbergen, Hacker-Pschorr Munchner Kellerbier and La Trappe Quad.
We checked out the food menu and it looks great. We snacked on the frites. The presentation was similar to beer bistro’s frites however not as good. Pretty soggy, no taste so it was a bit of a let down.
If they keep their prices low Smokeless will take a hit. The prices at Smokeless are the most expensive compared to the other beer places – BarVolo, Beer Bistro, Bier Markt. However smokeless has the cozy atmosphere and a selection of beers from around the world – including some great beers from Ontario. The big advantage The Town Crier Pub has is a massive patio. I can see this becoming very busy in the summertime.
Overall I’m impressed. Though any beer place with good beers on tap (and reasonable prices) minutes away from my house is a win for me!
